It’s a way to reach out to those in crisis and spread awareness of a valuable mental health resource. The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency’s (UCHRA) Public Transportation vehicles have begun displaying signage promoting the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
“The Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network is honored to be once again working with UCHRA to support the citizens of this region, by raising awareness about suicide risks and available resources, like the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline,” said Michael Anderson, Upper Cumberland Regional Director of Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network (TSPN).
The move to display the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline logo on UCHRA Public Transportation buses is also a historic one. UCHRA’s buses mark the first public transportation vehicles in the state of Tennessee to feature the 988 lifeline information.
“Utilizing public transportation to raise awareness about lifesaving resources like the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a historic and important first step, which we hope will take root and spread across the great State of Tennessee,” Anderson added.
UCDD employee and longtime TSPN volunteer Jessica Roberson recently coordinated the sale of t-shirts featuring the new 988 counseling number. Through various UCHRA-housed programs, such as UC Recovery, the Agency connects clients in need with resources and support, including those provided by TSPN. A portion of the proceeds from the t-shirts sold will benefit TSPN and UC Recovery.
In addition to promoting the 988 counseling number, these t-shirts proudly display the UC Recovery logo, highlighting another vital local resource for those struggling with substance use disorders.
