Have you seen online ads promising a “free roof” or a “complete bathroom remodel” through LIHEAP?
Be aware: these advertisements are misleading scams.
Deceptive third-party ads are currently circulating on social media, claiming government energy assistance programs will pay for major home renovations. Falling for these scams can put your personal and financial information at risk.
Here is what you need to know about the legitimate Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) administered by UCHRA:
- What LIHEAP actually does: LIHEAP is designed specifically to help eligible low-income households with their home energy costs—primarily heating and cooling utility bill assistance and energy crisis support.
- What it doesn’t do: LIHEAP does not provide free cosmetic remodeling, bathroom overhauls, or roof replacements.
- UCHRA never charges a fee: Official applications for LIHEAP through UCHRA are always 100% free. We will never ask you to pay an upfront processing fee to receive assistance.
